Italian Resort Lignano

Lignano is a relatively small resort. However, its size doesn’t prevent it from being a true gem of Venetian Riviera. The resort itself is a long beach (8 kilometers or about 5 miles in length) with the infrastructure that had been gradually added to it. The temperature here is quite comfortable: during summer the air warms up to 28-30 degrees, and water is 23-25 degrees.

If you’re looking for ways to reach Lignano, then you have to fly to Italy first. The closest airport is situated in Venice. From there it’s possible to take a bus or book a transfer from Venice to Lignano. The distance between Venice and the resort is 90 kilometers (56 miles), so if you can afford a taxi in Lignano it’s better to choose this option.

Exploring Lignano

The resort offers its guests 8 kilometers (5 miles) of coast that Italian has polished to perfection. The beach rest here is considered to be the best pastime of this region. The territory can be divided into 3 parts:

Lignano Riviera;
Lignano Pineta;
Lignano Sabbiadoro.

The zones are different, however, they are perfectly connected with each other. For example, it’s possible to rent accommodation in calm Riviera and go to night parties in noisy Sabbiadoro. Moving around Lignano in a taxi or a car is not the best option. The small size of this resort is ideal for walking. Another option is to rent a bike.

Lignano Riviera

This is the calmest, most quiet and luxurious part of the resort, mostly for wealthy tourists. There are several wellness centers here and thermal springs, sports grounds, golf fields, private villas and residences. If you’re looking for activities in this zone, you choose between versatile entertainment – water skiing, gyms, fitness centers or golf.

Lignano Pineta

This part of the resort is surrounded by subtropical pine forests and is known for its bohemian guests. There are multiple boutiques, shops of different kinds, bars and restaurants. But the main attraction of this part of the resort is two theme parks “Sea” and “Hemingway”. The world-famous classic of American literature preferred to rest in Lignano Pineta and even called this part of the resort “an Italian Florida”. Sea park is just a classical beach with deckchairs, umbrellas and beach bars.

Lignano Sabbiadoro

This is a relatively young resort, mostly created for youth and fans of night entertainments. There is no lack of nightclubs, music bars and discotheques here. However, this part of the resort is also recommended for family rest. On the territory of the resort parents can find Junior Park that was made for children. It’s full of children's playgrounds, lakes and fountains; the local employees working here are trained pedagogues.

Excursions in Lignano

The most popular excursion that tourists mostly take from Lignano is a trip to Venice. Everyone should visit this city famous for its fifteen hundred years’ history at least once: to take a tour along legendary Venetian canals in a gondola or a private boat. Of course, the city is known for other landmarks too. Excursions to the Doge’s Palace, visiting Burano and Murano islands and their splendid lagoons, multiple museums – there are so many things to do in Venice! If you choose the way of getting from Lignano to Venice, be sure to check one of the following options:

book a group tour at the hotel or travel agency in advance (usually you will be traveling in big shuttle buses);
take a local bus and be independent;
book a transfer Lignano or a taxi;
or rent a car (however, you would have to park somewhere before entering Venice – there are no cars in the Floating City).

There are two other tour destinations from Lignano. First is Trieste. This city is an ideal choice for everyone who loves old landmarks and architecture. Here you can see:

the ruins of the buildings left from the Roman Empire;
Miramare Castle;
San Guisto castle and cathedral.

The resort has a direct transport connection with Verona, which became famous due to Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet”.

If you have a desire to visit other Italian cities, you would have to reach Venice again, as there’s no airport near Lignano. However, from Venice it’s possible to reach any part of the country within a couple of hours, by plane or train.
