Val Gardena
Val Gardena is one of the resorts that can be reached from the Sella Ronda ski circuit. There are several districts here, and each skier will be able to choose the most suitable place for his activities. Finding accommodation in the valley is not a problem. Val Gardena consists of three villages with a vast choice of hotels. Reaching the resort itself is also easy: choose between train, bus or taxi in Val Gardena.
The location of skiing areas Val Gardena
Three villages of Val Gardena are:
- Ortisei;
- Santa Cristina;
- Selva.
Ortisei
Ortisei is conveniently located between two skiing areas SECEDA & COL RAISER and ALPE DI SIUSI. SECEDA & COL RAISER is a place for skiers with a certain experience. Feels like this area is pierced with steep slopes. However, skiers with intermediate level of skills won't be bored here. La Longia is a perfect trail for them. It's more than 6 miles (10 kilometers) long. The starting point of the trail is in SECEDA, the end is in Ortisei village.
Beginners can master their skills in APLE DE SUISI area. Mild slopes and availability of trails for training make it a perfect place for practicing. There are no tremendous changes of elevations here, and the highest starting point is located just 6,561 feet (2 kilometers) above sea level.
Santa Cristina
Santa Cristina is the smallest village in Val Gardena. It look more like a way station located between Ortisei and Selva. However, this place allows visitors to easily acces three skiing areas: MONTE PANA, CIAMPINOI and a familiar SECEDA & COL RAISER.
MONTE PANA is more suitable for beginners. Using ski lifts, skiers have a great opportunity to reach Mont de Seura summit and enjoy several steep slopes. This is one of the reasons why beginners love this place and choose it for a vacation: training can be done in a safe zone, but practicing is possible a bit higher.
CIAMPINOI is a pride of Val Gardena. It hosts annual competitions in downhill and slalom. Reaching this area is possible with one of three ski lifts. There are no mild slopes here, that's why most experienced skiers are coming to this place.
Selva
Selva is a choice for most tourists. Skiers who decide to rent accommodation here can visit three skiing areas: DANTERCEPIES, PLAN DE GRALBA and a familiar CIAMPINOI.
DANTERCEPIES is located on the border of Val Gardena and Alta Badia. Several trails for training are found here, so any beginner can find a coach and learn the ABC of skiing. Steep slopes are also located here. But reaching their starting points is possible with ski lifts only.
PLAN DE GRALBA is often called an identical twin of CIAMPINOI. Some of the trails start in one of the areas and end in another. That's why it's hard to tell where the actual border is.
There are also trails that allow skiers to reach a neighboring Val di Fassa valley. Local slopes and ski runs are welcoming any kind of skiers regardless of their level. Both beginners and slalom cup winners will find suitable trails.
How to reach Val Gardena
Val Gardena and its neighboring resorts are connected with the main Italian airports, Bolzano and Innsbruck by a network of buses. Tourists who have no desire to wait for their shuttle bus, can take any local bus, reach another resort, and take a taxi to Val Gardena from there. Taxi price in Italy is not high, so there won't be huge financial losses when traveling like that.
